A new pastor was ordained this afternoon at Grace Lutheran in Pocatello, but for the members of the church, it was just a new title to a very familiar face.
For the past couple of years, new Reverend Jim Von Busch has been working hard to earn the title; first starting as an elder, moving to deacon, and even spending some time at seminary.
“It’s been home since we came in the door 5 and a half years ago, and that’s been a neat journey. Being part of the family and the church congregation here, and finding ways to serve in different ways,” said new Reverend Jim Von Busch.
The church members are thrilled to see one of their own take on this great responsibility, rather than bringing in someone new altogether, but he is qualified for this position for reasons other than easy transition.
“Well Jim is known in this community, he’s a counselor. So he has that counselling background, professional counseling. A lot of pastors have some training in counseling, but Jim is a professional,” said Senior Pastor at Grace Lutheran, Jonathan Dinger.
Jim brings his expertise in marriage family counseling to the table and looks forward to his increased responsibilities with the children that go through their school.
“My involvement with the students will be increasing, and also focusing in on middle and high school, but what I hope to do is cultivate hearts and minds and lives so that they’re connected. So that the youth are connected to their families and then the greater family and community,” said Von Busch.
He is a great asset for the congregation and the community, and Grace Lutheran feels lucky to call him one of their own.
“He’s a godly man, a humble man, but with really high intelligence and high commitment,” said Dinger.
Grace Lutheran invites everyone to come meet Jim and take advantage of the skills he brings to our community with his new position.
