Although we have about 18 operating ski areas in Idaho, for many of us; it can still be a bit of a drive to get to them…but now residents in Rexburg have something to look forward to because of a brand new snowboard cable park that just opened up.

What is so interesting about this is that it’s not just unique to eastern Idaho, this is the only snowboard cable park in the nation, and it’s right here in our own back yard.

“We learned that in Europe they started doing cable parks on the snow and build snow parks, and so after seeing a few videos and making a few phone calls, we decided to go ahead and try it out” said The Cable Factory owner Brett Kesler.

Just one month after coming up with the idea; Kesler and his friends have already opened the cable park.

“It’s really unique honestly, it’s the first one in the states, the only other one that I know about is in Sweden, so it doesn’t really matter who you are you haven’t really experienced something like this” said the park master builder Matt Vansteenkiste.

Snowboarders and skiers hold on to the cable as it pulls them through the 500 feet of the park.

“The park is good for any skill level and whether they’re a beginner or an advanced rider they can go out and have fun at the park. The beginners don’t have to hit any obstacles, they can just drive right down the middle and ride back and really learn how to use their edges and carve through the snow” continued Kesler.

“We have little kids, we’ve had birthday parties out here, we’ll pull them across on tubes or sleds, just because you don’t snowboard or ski doesn’t mean that you can’t come out here and have fun” continued Vansteenkiste.

The Cable Factory is open Monday through Friday from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The cost is $15 for an hour or $35 for a whole day.

The Cable Factory cable park is just off the first Rexburg exit if you’re coming from Idaho Falls and then it’s the first street on your right. It’s right next to Rainbow Lake.

The cable will be used for wake boarding in the summer months.
