As the nation pauses Monday to honor the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., for local school children some think it is just a day out of class but for one local establishment Monday is big business.
At Outer Limits Fun Zone in the Westwood Mall in Pocatello, they open the doors early to accommodate the crush of kids looking to spend their day playing in the arcade, laser tag, miniature golf and bowling. Owner Stacy Miller says there is only one way to describe the scene.
“We're a 30,000 square foot ball of fun I guess you could say,” said Miller.
Miller says they not only open earlier on non-school days but they also bring in extra employees to help the kids out, kids like Spencer and Taylor Moulton. Spencer says it's because of all the stuff to do that they came in.
“The night golfing over there, there's bowling over here, lots of fun, there's tons to do here,” Spencer said.
And Taylor says his time spent is a welcome break from the books.
“Definitely, the best place to have fun,” said Taylor.
Miller says it has not only been local kids spending their day at Outer Limits
“Our laser tag arena has been back to back laser tags all day Monday,” Miller said. “We've actually had people driving from Malad and Soda Springs to come play laser tag Monday. So, it's been a lot of fun for those families.”
And the increase in kids and families leads to an increase on the bottom line and Miller says they see an increase of around 50 percent in sales.
“I wish we could have every day like Monday,” said Miller. “Weekends are always our busiest times so every time you can add one of these in it's like adding another Friday or Saturday into our weekends, so it makes a big difference.”
Monday was Taylor Moulton's birthday so everyone here at KPVI News 6 would like to wish Taylor a very happy birthday.
