A Rigby man is dead following a car crash late Sunday night south of Downey.

According to Idaho State Police, 20-year-old Guy ‘Clancey” Rinderknecht was traveling southbound on US 91 in a 1995 GMC Jimmy when he drove off the road, overcorrected, and rolled. The vehicle then became engulfed in flames.

Also in the vehicle were passengers 21-year-old Odell ‘Joe’ Rinderknecht of Rigby and 81-year-old Celia Z. Bennett of Logan, Utah. Joe Rinderknecht was able to extricate himself and Bennett from the vehicle.

Clancey Rinderknecht was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. Joe Rinderknecht was transported to Franklin County Medical Center by ground ambulance and later to Portneuf Medical Center for treatment of his injuries. Bennett was transferred by helicopter to Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, Utah.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation. Troopers say both Clancey and Joe Rinderknecht were not wearing seatbelts. It is unknown if Bennett was wearing a seatbelt.

There is no insurance coverage for this family. A fund has been set up at the Bank of Commerce to help cover funeral and medical expenses. Your donation in behalf of the Rinderknecht family would be greatly appreciated at any branch of the bank of commerce. Thanks to any who can help this family. Vicki
