We have all felt the pain at the pump last year… but just how bad was it?  Summer Joy tells us just how rough it got for Idaho drivers.

Things were rough; it was the worst year at the pump for Idaho in 2012. Idaho’s average 3 dollars and 58 cents per gallon of gasoline in 2012 is up nine cents from a year ago… that makes last year the most expensive year on record according to AAA in Idaho. A year ago the US Average was 3.51, compared to Idaho’s $3.49 mark.

Idaho’s monthly average prices were as much as 39 cents lower than the national average in February, but moved to 26 cents higher during June.  AAA said Gem State motorists experienced prices substantially below the national mark until May, but racked up higher monthly averages during five of the remaining months.

“Idaho motorists had room for frustration, especially when this state’s highest average daily price of $3.88 occurred in September, following the busier summer travel season,” Carlson said.

Idaho’s average lowest daily price was $3.04 on January 17. The state’s highest daily mark of $3.88 occurred on September 19. The highest daily national average of the year was $3.94 on April 5 and 6, while the lowest daily average was $3.22 a gallon on December 22.

“Though Idaho was not directly influenced by hurricanes, domestic refinery closures and distribution problems that hit other regional markets, we shared in much of the domestic volatility that led to record pump prices,” said AAA Idaho Public Affairs Director Dave Carlson.

Experts say there is simply too many factors to consider… but the underlying factors suggest prices at the pump should be lower this upcoming year.

Closing out the year, Idaho’s average price for regular grade unleaded gasoline dropped 48 cents in the last 30 days of 2012, to an average of $3.06. Today’s average Idaho pump price is $2.98. The last time the state’s average was below $3.00 was February 2011.

Paying for gas has been expensive but cutting back on other places with a home budget makes it good. Lots of things we consider luxury living we do without being thrifty is good for a family to practice. When we do spend it is special makes everyone appreciate those times together.
