A plane crash that killed two people and injured a teenager Saturday afternoon in Idaho Falls will be under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board.

A 64-year-old Idaho Falls man and a 43-year-old Rexburg man died at the scene. A 13-year-old boy was transported to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center where he is in stable condition.

According to initial reports, at 1:35 p.m. the twin engine Piper Comanche plane, carrying three people, departed on general aviation runway 1-7 heading south. The plane crashed in a vacant lot just south of the airport near the intersection of International Way and Skyline shortly after take-off.

The Idaho Falls Police Department, the Idaho Falls Fire Department and Idaho Falls Airport officials responded immediately to the scene.

The three victims were extricated from the plane.

It is unknown at this time who was piloting the plane. The names of the victims are being withheld until notification of next of kin.

The public is asked to stay clear of the crash scene.
