A Dubois man is facing multiple charges after police say he briefly held an Idaho Falls family hostage.
Idaho Falls Police arrested Josue Andres Rodriguez, 23, for second-degree kidnapping and burglary following the incident Monday night.
Rodriguez of Dubois was arrested on a warrant Tuesday night.
Police responded to the 700 block of Hoopes around 10:10 a.m. for a report of a Rodriguez holding a couple and their child against their will in an apartment.
The victim told police that Rodriguez approached him outside the apartment asking to use a cell phone. When the victim could not provide one, Rodriguez started acting erratic and followed the victim back into his apartment.
Rodriguez then forced the door closed and asked how much money the victims had. The victim showed Rodriguez his wallet. Then Rodriguez started fighting with the victim. The victim’s wife took their two-year-old child and climbed out a window. She called police.
The victim fought with Rodriguez until he put Rodriguez into a choke hold causing him to pass out. Police arrived shortly after.
Rodriguez was taken Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center to be treated.
