Police: no charges pending in ISU accidental shooting

The following is a news release from the Pocatello Police Dept.

On 9/2/2014 at approximately 3:45 p.m., officers from the Pocatello Police Department and Idaho State University Public Safety responded to a report of an employee of Idaho State University who accidentally discharged a small caliber handgun inside a classroom at the Physical Science Building, 785 S. 8th. The weapon was in the employee’s pants pocket and was not displayed at any time. The employee was injured in the foot and treated and released from the hospital.
There were no other injuries reported.

The ISU employee possesses a current Idaho Enhanced Concealed Weapons Permit, an Idaho Basic Concealed Weapons Permit and a Utah Concealed Weapons Permit. There were students in the classroom at the time of the accidental discharge. Investigators are identifying and contacting all those who were present.
The weapon, bullet casing and bullet were recovered at the scene. They will be held as evidence until the outcome of the case has been determined.

There are no criminal charges pending at this time. An administrative review will be conducted by Idaho State University and the City of Pocatello following completion of the investigation, which is ongoing at this time.
