In July, the Portneuf Greenway Foundation announced that they were making a big donation to the Pocatello Zoo, a $45,000 donation.
KPVI NEWS 6 had questions that we thought needed to be answered, we called the Portneuf Greenway Foundation and here's what they told us.
At July’s Midsummers Night For the Zoo, the foundation announced the donation.
Where did the money come from and why was the foundation giving it to the zoo?
Here's is what we found out.
Pacific Recycling made to donations to the foundation, one in 2007 for $20,000 and one in 2008 for $25,000.
This money was designated for a trail behind Pacific Recycling.
When plans for the trail didn't work out, Pacific Recycling asked if the money could be donated to the Pocatello Zoo to help with their new entrance.
We asked the foundation, why not give the money back to Pacific Recycling and let them donate the money to the zoo.
Rory Erchul, President/Portneuf Greenway Foundation, "We had decided because it was a short period of time that we needed to get all of this stuff done that we would just make the transfer ourselves without giving the money back to Pacific Recycling and kind of, it's just a longer way to do it. And then that way we can all come together as good community stewards, Pacific Recycling, the Greenway Foundation and the zoo and say, "we're all here supporting pocatello." this is a great project for pocatello. and even though we are a not-for-profit organization, so are they. and we want to support our community and what's good for the community is good for all of us."
The foundation wants to make it clear that other donated funds were not involved in this donation to the zoo, just the money that Pacific Recycling had given to the foundation.
