This past Friday was a wet one for Pocatello. 2.16” of rain fell in just a few hours causing flooding and causing the City of Pocatello to jump into action.

Mayor Brian Blad explained that, "Friday we had a major storm. The city was out (working) all night long: Fire, Water, Streets, we were out all night long cleaning that up and doing everything we could to get it so that the city could actually function on Saturday."

The superintendent of the streets division of The City of Pocatello, Randy Ghezzi, noted that the city is still working to clean up after the storm.

"Were still doing the cleanup now actually. Were still engaged in sweeping, storm drain cleaning, were cleaning grates and drains and roads every day," Ghezzi said.

The storm cleanup has cost the city a bit of money

Ghezzi explained that, "You can certainly depend on about twenty thousand dollars worth of cleanup efforts. Thank goodness we didn’t have very much actual road damage, that’s where it becomes costly."

The mayor said he’s impressed by how the community has handled recent challenges

"Last week you saw people that were stalled in the road, out there in water that’s knee deep push their car out of the way and helping other citizens. It’s amazing to live in a place like we live in," Mayor Blad said.
