The biggest building in Rigby is now ready and open for business, but to get in there is only one requirement, you have to be willing to go back to school.
This 40 million dollar high school has been in the making for three years and now starting the first week of September this 275 thousand square foot building will hold around 12 hundred students ranging from the ninth to the twelfth grade.
"My hope is that this building is a catalyst for change for Rigby High School and also for our community. Rigby is a wonderful community, they are supportive of education and their students. We have great kids here and I think this is a building that our kids deserve and I hope it is one that our community will come, see, appreciate, and use," said Dr. Yvonne Thurber, Rigby High School's Principal.
This week is registration and hundreds of Rigby students are actually looking forward to this upcoming school year.
"I'm just excited for a great year, go Rigby," said Chelsea Moon, a Rigby High Senior.
"It's awesome, there is a lot of cool things," said Harrison Moon, a Rigby High Sophomore.
Rigby High's new building will offer some of the latest technology in their classrooms, plus an environmental building that features a brand new and beautiful state of the art auditorium.
"I love the new auditorium and the new arts department. That is what I'm in to and because of that, I'm really looking forward to performing there," added Chelsea.
"It's really big, so I'm a little scared, but I'm excited. I'm looking forward to experiencing team spirit because we don't have really that much in Norway, I'm excited," said Natalie Knutsen, a Rigby High Foreign Exchange Student.
This building represents more than just a new look, Dr. Thurber says when it comes to hitting the books in the classrooms they are going to offer an education that focuses on these kids having a successful future.
"I think Rigby is on the cutting edge of what education is doing. We will have smart projectors in each classroom along with every teacher using an I-Pad to teach. We are using technology across the curriculum whether it be in writing or mathematics and just staying up with what globally is being expected of students as they graduate from high school. It is a completely different atmosphere and students are now learning in a way that they will be expected to work in the future," added Dr. Thurber.
