With rumors circulating that Pocatello will not have a rodeo this year, i went to go investigate. The place: Pocatello fairgrounds, the time: today, march 23,. As far as i could tell, not only will Pocatello have larger rodeos this year, but the event today was a hit.
The secretary at the Rodeo, Heidi Partner, said that, “Today were having a fundraiser for the highland/poky century rodeo club. It helps the kids for when they qualify to go to the state high school finals. And also for national high school finals and we like to support them as our local club for the highland, Pocatello and century kids.”
Those who wait out the drudgery of winter to witness some country style rodeo action were left out in the cold during this event, save for a few flakes and maybe lots of ice sliding off of the arena roof. Despite the cold, however, rodeo participants, fans and horses got energized and had a ball during a very necessary indoor rodeo. This event however, is just the beginning of the fun ahead for those interested in riding, roping or watching
In asking what rodeo fans can expect from future Rodeos, Partner stated,” They can expect some great competition. We'll have bulls and saddleback and bareback along with barrel racing and pole-bending and tie-down roping. We’ll have our queens there and just a lot of good fun times.”
As Heidi, said, the top competitors from the whole state will be here at the bannock county fairgrounds. It's an event to mark on your calendar; which is again running from the 8th to the 15th of June. Those interesting in rodeo action however don't have to wait till June to enjoy the good times.
Our regular rodeo for the Pocatello area and Aberdeen / American falls starts on April 5th here at the bannock county fairgrounds at 7pm. The next week were off but after that we go for 6 weeks so come out and support the kids, Friday night at 7 and Saturday morning at 11 o'clock.
