Since their inception in 1979, the STAR team has always been there when we need them and now they are asking for a little help from us.

The STAR team covers an area roughly the size of New Hampshire. Within their 9,217 square miles is a population of a little more than 166,000 people. The seven local sheriffs who attended the new conference each expressed their concern about violent crime in our area.

The tactical response team has aging equipment that is not only uncomfortable but it’s also not the safest either. Thursday, they announced plans to replace their armored personnel carrier.

Their goal is to purchase a new tactical vehicle with sufficient ballistic protection to allow for a safe working environment for the STAR Team Members.

Each individual sheriff’s office is partnering with the local Fraternal Order of Police and area government agencies to help pay for the new vehicle but they are still relying on contributions from the public. You can help by sending a tax deductible donation to FOP Lodge 1, in care of Doug Armstrong, P.O. Box 4666, Pocatello, Idaho 83202 or by making a donation to the “Bearcat Account” at any Potelco location.
