"Today is actually the one year mark for my heart transplant, and it's kind of a big deal, because we didn't even think that I would be able to have a heart transplant,” says Sarah Brown, Heart Transplant recipient.

So to celebrate Sarah's second chance at life and her one year anniversary of receiving her new heart and to honor the donor and their family, Sarah and her family are asking people to do random acts of kindness for others.

"So we are asking them to pay it forward. We don't know who her donor is, and their family and we are hoping by secret acts of kindness that somehow, someone might do something for them,” says Julia Brown, Sarah’s mom.

"That is kind of our way of saying Thank You, because we don't know who they are. They have decided to stay anonymous,” added Sarah.

Before Sarah received her new heart, it was all she could do to get up in the morning, now she is running circles around the neighborhood.

"But now since I have had my transplant, I wake up feeling great, going to bed feeling just as amazing or even more so and throughout the day just going, going and going,” says Sarah.

Julia said it was a bitter sweet moment the day they received the news that Sarah was getting a new heart.

"And I remember how absolutely elated, how absolutely relieved and excited we were but then almost at that very moment, we knew that somebody was so upset and so sad, because somebody that they loved tragically died,” says Julia.

"Yes, that’s probably the biggest thing is that I am grateful and I hope I can live my life to be able to be worthy of this gift that they have given me,” concluded Sarah.

Julia says that if you are interested in becoming a donor, you can register on a national donors website at www.donatelife.net and she says it’s also important to make sure that your family members know your wishes to be a donor.

The Brown family also invites you to ‘Pay it Forward for Sarah’, to help them say thank you to her anonymous donor’s family.
