The Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an incident involving a scuffle between Idaho Falls Police Officers and a 44-year-old man who temporarily lost consciousness during the arrest.
Police were called to the 400 block of G Street around 9:40 p.m, Sunday night, for a report of a disturbance. As police questioned witnesses, a male suspect named Ronald R. Mencer, Jr., approached the officers and tried to hit them with an unidentified object. One officer pushed Mencer away.
Mencer started to kick at officers and even tried to bite them. Police used a drive stun on Mencer multiple times to gain control of the situation. It was ineffective.
Additional officers were called for assistance. Eventually they were able to detain Mencer. A short time after his arrest, Mencer lost consciousness.
Paramedics were called. He was taken to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.
