Snake River Teacher to be Placed on Probation
The Snake River School Board will place teacher Elaine Asmus on probation for one school year. Here is the statement from the school board:
The Snake River School District Board of Trustees wishes to announce that it has reached a decision in the Elaine Asmus matter. Specifically, the Board has determined that Ms. Asmus’ teaching contract should be renewed, provided that Ms. Asmus will be placed on probation for a period of one full school year on account of several violations of Board Policies and the Idaho Code of Professional Ethics for Professional Educators. The Board also determined there was no violation of Board Policy 7435 (Harassment/Sexual Intimidation in the Work Place) or Board Policy 8735 (Hazing, Harassment, Sexual Harassment, Intimidation, Bullying, Cyber Bully, Menacing).
The Board expresses its appreciation to all staff members and others involved. The Board also appreciates the interest of its patrons in the matter and their patience in seeing the matter through to its conclusion. This matter has been very divisive, but the Board is confident that the staff and patrons can now join together in supporting and enhancing the quality of education provided to the youth in our wonderful community.
We spoke to Mrs. Asmus on the phone and she says she is relieved by the decision and is ready to move forward with her teaching career.
"To me, if you have a concern you want to address it and you work it out, and I want very much to work out anything between me and any coworker that might have a disagreement. I'm very willing to work it out," Mrs. Asmus said.
