It’s the day before Christmas which means all those last minute shoppers are out there getting the final touches of gifts, food and decorations before the big day.
We went to take a look at how some of the local stores are doing this Christmas Eve.
Hopefully you got all of your shopping in because many stores in the area are full of customers.
Whether you’re a procrastinator or just a perfectionist who has to get every detail down to a ‘T’, you’re probably one of the estimated 17 million shoppers hitting the stores today.
“It’s actually really busy, lines are really long, people are, it’s just crowded it’s a wreck in there just trying to get everything that you need” said Ben Smith.
Holiday sales can account for 40% of annual sales which means retailers are knocking those prices down to get as many customers through their doors as possible. This is also why many people say they wait until the last minute; so they can find the best deal.
“Actually, I came to get a TV and some headphones,” continued Smith.
Sales are expected to be up 4% this year from last year despite the fiscal cliff and Hurricane Sandy disaster. Many stores have extended their hours.
It’s estimated that families will spend about $700 in gifts this year.
