Cellphone companies say their networks weathered the storm after a blizzard dumped up to 3 feet of snow on New England. Not all cell towers have backup power, so natural disasters can take out cell service through power outages. Last fall's Superstorm Sandy had a major impact on cell service in flooded areas of the Northeast. But last week's snowstorm had much less effect.
AT&T
says the "vast majority" of its cell towers in the hardest-hit states are operating fine.
Verizon Wireless
, which prides itself on providing backup power to nearly all sites, says its network is performing well.
Sprint Nextel
says the storm's impact was "minimal."
Google's
executive chairman is selling off a big chunk of his stake in the internet search giant. Eric Schmidt was the company's CEO from 2001 until 2011. According to a Friday filing with the SEC, Schmidt is selling up to 3.2 million shares of Google stock. It's worth about $2.5 billion. But he still has more than 4-million shares left. This sale is part of a pre-arranged stock trading plan the company approved in November. The plan allows Schmidt to start selling his stock this month.
It was music's night to shine, as the
Grammy Awards
were handed out yesterday. The Recording Academy's Grammy website has videos, red carpet and backstage photos, and of course, the complete list of winners. You can also relive some history from Grammy Awards past.
