Yahoo is buying online blogging forum Tumblr for $1.1 billion as CEO Marissa Mayer tries to rejuvenate an Internet icon that had fallen behind the times. The deal announced Monday represents Mayer's boldest move yet since she left Google 10 months ago to lead Yahoo's latest comeback attempt. It marks Yahoo's most expensive acquisition since the Sunnyvale, Calif., company bought Overture for $1.3 billion a decade ago. Tumblr now figures to play a pivotal role in Mayer's attempt to reshape Yahoo Inc. Mayer is betting that Tumblr, a 6-year-old service started by high school dropout David Karp, will provide Yahoo with a hook to reel in more traffic and advertisers on smartphones and tablets. The companies say Tumblr will remain independently operated and Karp will stay CEO.

NASA scientists recorded a powerful explosion on the moon recently. A meteoroid struck the lunar surface at speeds of 56,000 miles-an-hour on March 17th. The impact was so powerful, the flash of bright light from the blast could be seen on earth with the naked eye. NASA just released the info on the collision Friday. The space agency's astronomers have been monitoring the moon for the past eight years. They're looking for explosions caused by meteoroids. It's part of a program designed to find and monitor space debris that could hit earth. NASA says it sees hundreds of detectable lunar meteoroid impacts a year.

Snapjaw launches a digital bumper sticker. Drivers can personalize and change their messages via text from their mobile phone, hopefully "not" while driving. The screen also displays traffic warnings and Amber Alerts. Snapjaw kicked off a Kickstarter campaign Monday, to fund its initial purchase order.
The devices will cost about a $150, with a service fee.

A central Idaho couple is suing the Sun Valley Co. and the Twitter social media site, asking a judge to bar the resort from using the Twitter handle @SunValley. Leonard Barshack and Erin Smith, the husband and wife, also say Twitter should return the handle to them, because they'd been using it for nearly three years and weren't impersonating the Idaho resort. The Idaho Mountain Express reports the resort sought to use the handle in October 2012. That's when Twitter sent Barshack an e-mail, saying he was breaking Twitter's rules. But Barshack, described in an online biography as a former Wall Street executive and online poker room founder, contends he never impersonated Sun Valley and only periodically sent messages and tweets since registering for the handle around April 2010.

The little blue guy is now rolling exclusively with a different crew. Sega says it will release the next three games in its Sonic the Hedgehog franchise on Nintendo hardware. The first title will be called "Sonic Lost World" and is set for release on the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS later this year. The original rapid running side-scrolling "Sonic" made its debut in 1991, becoming a rival to other video game icons like Super Mario and Pac-Man. The president of Nintendo of America says Sonic and Mario will team up again as they have in the past. Look for them to star together in a game based on the 2014 Winter Olympic Games.
