Severe decomposition of a body discovered last week in Teton County, Wyoming is making the case difficult to crack.
Last Thursday Teton County deputies responded to the Mosquito Creek drainage at the report of a dead body. The male body was in a secluded area about 150 yards from Fall Creek Road. They treated the area as a crime scene and spent the next five hours processing evidence.
Detectives believe the victim may have been dead for two weeks or longer and may have been camping or frequenting the area.
Since the body was discovered, the sheriff's office says a number of rumors have surfaced about the victim and cause of death. The head was located severed from the body but detectives say no conclusions should be drawn from this information pending the autopsy. Investigators hope the forensic pathologist can determine the cause and manner of death. They also hope the autopsy will help in identifying the individual.
