Svann Langford is the facilitator of the Jeremiah Project which is a cutting and self- injury support group. She knows firsthand about this because she is a former cutter herself who inflicted self- injury for 25 years.

"I got a piece of pottery and I slashed my hand with it and immediately my brain connected with the fact that I felt better emotionally,” says Svann Langford.

This coffee bar serves up more than coffee, it serves compassion, support and hope.

"It's a safe place. It's a safe environment, it's a place where you can come, you can talk and not worry about being judged, not worry about what is this person going to think,” says Nicolae Pummer.

"I started the group because I really have a heart to help people that are cutting and self-injuring,” says Langford.

Svann says that the group focuses on dealing with the core issues.

"I cut because of my childhood past. I am a sexual abuse victim, physical abuse. I was placed in foster care system at age 10 and my thinking was no one cares about me, so why should I care about myself,” added Pummer.

"Just wanted to do what I could do to help people come out of it and learn how to, not just not do it, but learn to change what's going on here, heal the pain that's here, change the thinking and then I believe the behavior will just naturally go on the weigh side,” concluded Langford.

The group will be holding a cutting and self- injury awareness seminar with a question and answer panel for the public on Friday May 16th from 7-9.
