It turns out there is quite the market for beer. The Mountain Brewers Beer Fest brings thousands of people to Idaho Falls every year and a beer fest in the Gate City is hoping to mirror their success.

“It’s really a great event because you’ve got 12 different locations, they’ve got different music, they’ve got different food and they all have different beers,” said Matt Hunter, Executive Director of the Greater Pocatello Chamber of Commerce. “We’ve got about 60 different beers spread amongst these different locations.”

Brewfest has grown in each of its three years. They’ve had a record turnout for preorders but they have plenty of room if you want to purchase a ticket tomorrow.

“Brewfest starts in four places in the Old Town area,” said Hunter. “They can come first to either the Elk’s Club, to Portneuf Valley Brewing, to Hooligans, or the First National, buy their beer badge which then gets them into all the other places.”

The proceeds from this event are split in half with Old Town Pocatello and the chamber each taking a share. The money helps them throughout the year and the experience is something both organizations hope will be bring some of the hundreds of people in attendance back to Old Town.

“Just the fact that we have 12 great places in the Old Town area where you can go and eat and enjoy, it’s really a great thing,” continued Hunter. “It’s good for folks to get down here, see those places and so hopefully they’ll come back and visit them again.”

This year they are introducing a shuttle to transport people between the event areas. And on the back of each beer pass are the phone numbers of our local taxi companies.
