The United States Geological Survey is reporting that a 4.2 magnitude earthquake has rocked an area west of Soda Springs.

The epicenter of the earthquake is shown as along Highway 30 about 17 miles west of Soda Springs.

A second earthquake was also felt in the area.  The USGS says that was a smaller 3.6 magnitude earthquake that shook the earth about one mile further west than the first quake.

Many viewers called into our newsroom and posted comments on our Facebook page about the earthquake.  Witnesses say they felt the earth rattle from Preston to Pocatello.

Casey Olson posted, "Yup it was scary!!  Our animals just went crazy!!"

Doug Guymon wrote, "My bed rocked left to right.  I live on Dolbeer street."

Trista Russell-Crites added, "Felt it in Soda Springs.  [It] rattled things on the wall and was loud.  My kids were sleeping and came running out."

Here are the links to the two earthquakes on the USGS website: Earthquake 1, Earthquake 2.
