A three-vehicle crash near Rigby sent multiple people to the hospital.

Idaho State Police are investigating the accident which happened just before 3:30 a.m., Monday morning, on U.S. Highway 20.

Police say Richard Rumley, 50, of Palatka, FL, was driving too fast on icy road conditions and lost control of his semi-truck causing it to jackknife on the Snake River Lorenzo bridge. Another truck driven by Nicholas Romo, 30, of Idaho Falls, failed to stop and hit the cab of Rumley's semi. Rumley's trailer separated from his cab.

The cab went through the guard rail and the trailer came to a stop in the left lane. Todd Russell, 56, of Roundup, MT, who was driving another semi also hit Rumley's trailer.

Rumley and his passenger, Patrick Melvin, 41, of Palatka, FL, were transported by ground ambulance to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.

Kevin Walters, 18, of Twentynine Palms, CA, was a passenger riding with Romo and he was taken by ground ambulance to Madison Memorial along with Russell.

Both eastbound lanes were blocked for approximately 12 hours while crews worked to clear the scene. Both lanes are now open.
