UPDATE: The Pocatello Police have served a notice to suspend the day care license of Castleland Day Care in Pocatello. The suspension is currently active, pending and appearance before the Pocatello City Council.
PREVIOUS STORY: The microscope is on a local day care after allegations and now charges of sexual abuse.
Lt. Paul Manning, spokesperson for the Pocatello Police Department, says a juvenile has been charged with two counts of lewd and lascivious conduct. Lt. Manning says there are two victims in this case, both were being cared for at the Castleland Day Care at the time of the alleged abuse.
The investigation started two months ago after police learned of the alleged abuse. Lt. Manning says a safety plan was immediately implemented and random checks have been made at the day care over the course of the investigation. Because of this safety plan and the fact other children were not in imminent danger, Lt. Manning says it was not necessary to close the day care.
The police learned of the alleged abuse after one of the victim's told parents of the absue during dinner one night. KPVI News 6 spoke to a parent of one of the victims, and got more information on how the story came out.
"At dinner, just clear as could be, very matter of fact. My child started telling me what had been happening, and that my child had been sexually abused. And I listened, and as soon as my child finished telling me I got up and called the Pocatello police department. And I filed a report immediately," said the victim's parent.
Investigations like these take time as officers conduct forensic interviews with the victims and make sure they have factual information. Now the case is being reviewed by the city's legal department which will make it's recommendation to the Pocatello Police Department. PPD will then give it's recommendation to the Pocatello City Council which will be charged with determining if the day care's license should be revoked. Lt. Manning says that decision won't come for at least two weeks when the city council meets again.
"My world just shattered around me," said the victim's parent, "because my children are my light and my joy, and they are the purpose of my life. To know that someone had violated my baby’s innocence, you can’t even put words to it."
Official charges have been filed, but so far the day care remains open.
