A residential fire had the Idaho Falls Fire Department busy this morning.
Emergency personnel received a call at 11:08 this morning receiving word a house fire had started on 425 Garfield Street.
“All I was doing was just watching TV, petting my dog, when all I see is just ambulances driving down the road, I was like whoa…something is going wrong, there’s two now there’s three” said neighbor Cole Johnson.
The caller who reported the fire ran to the house and started banging on windows to make sure no one was inside. Luckily no one was home as the fire spread.
A near-by neighbor described what he saw when he came outside.
“Just smoke coming out of the house, just all these trucks and people getting on suits” continued Johnson.
At least 3 engines, a rescue truck and an ambulance responded to the scene.
It took the fire department 14 minutes to extinguish the fire.
“Now I’m afraid because now I have to keep everything off and we’ve had a lot of fire hazards in the house I’ve got to take care of now” said Johnson.
The cause of the fire is under investigation but according to the homeowner; an alternative heat source was left on and unattended.
The estimated damage is $25,000.
