New: A 22-year-old man is behind bars following the shooting death of a 21-year-old Idaho Falls woman.
Adan Arroyo learned the penalties he could be facing; one of those includes the death sentence.
The Bonneville County Sheriff's office believes Arroyo and another suspect are responsible for the death of 21-year-old Kristy M. Aschliman.
She was found lying on the side of Lincoln road with a gunshot wound to the head Saturday afternoon.
Witnesses reported two men running from the scene. One of them was Arroyo. He was later arrested at his home on suspicion of murder. The other suspect has not been identified and no charges have been filed as detectives continue to investigate.
Arroyo made his first court appearance this afternoon.
He didn't have much time in front of the judge or the prosecuting attorneys but in that short amount of time he learned he would not be allowed to post bond.
Other penalties he faces include a 10 year minimum fixed sentence as well as 15 years imprisonment.
The state has 60 days to seek the death penalty if they wish to do so.
Arroyo's preliminary hearing is set to February 1st at 1:30 p.m.
Older: The Bonneville County Sheriff's Office confirmed Saturday that an Idaho Falls woman had died after a shooting on Lincoln Road.
Sheriff's Deputies were called to the 5100 block of East Lincoln road just before 1:00 p.m., Saturday, after a witness reported that a woman had been shot and two men were running from the scene.
Sheriff Paul Wilde says when deputies arrived, the found Kristy M. Aschliman, 21, lying near the road.
Deputies tried to treat Aschliman's injuries but she was determined to be dead by the time paramedics arrived.
Idaho Falls Police and Idaho State Police also responded to assist the Bonneville County Sheriff's Office. Officers secured the area and identified a vehicle that the suspects might be driving.
Police went to a home in the 2000 block of North 31st Ave. where the located Adan A. Arroyo, 22, of Blackfoot.
Arroyo was arrested and charged with murder. Other suspects have been interviewed as detectives continue to gather evidence and collect witness statements.
