The upper valley got quite a bit of snow dumped on them over the weekend. Most of the schools in the area closed and the snow-covered roads made it difficult for cars to travel on.
City Street Department employees had a busy night after receiving over 6 inches of snow.
They hit the streets at 1 a.m. and plowed all night.
“Some of the guys we’ve had to send home to get rest and they’ll be back in again tonight at 1:00 in the morning and we’ll work all through the night again” said Public Works Director John Millar.
The city of Rexburg will start snow-plowing their streets once the snow has hit 2 inches.
“One thing you may notice that’s different is we just got a new piece of equipment last week” continued Millar.
This is a 300 horsepower snow blower, snow blows out of the top onto trucks where the snow is loaded and taken away.
“In order to do a full plowing and do a good job we require from 2 to 7 every night that there is no on-street parking allowed, that we’re able to do a clean plowing, not plow cars in, and if we have some that are left on the street and we’re doing a plowing chances are it will get towed and the owner will get to pay a towing and an impound fee” said Millar.
The city of Rexburg Street Department encourages residents to not drive unless they have to.
