Take a stroll down main street and stop in at Station Square, where you will find Billy and Sanae Wood's new authentic Japanese lunch cafe, Yoshida, which is named after the town that Sanae grew up in and later met her now husband, Billy, while he was on an LDS mission in Japan.
Because Sanae has brought her culture and heritage from Yoshida Japan to America, she is no stranger to cooking authentic Japanese food that they specialize in at their lunchtime cafe.
"This is like my mother's taste, my mom cooks for us every day you know, and it's a Japanese traditional food,” said Yoshida owner, Sanae Wood.
"It's authentic flavor, my wife is native Japanese and so you probably have not tasted anything quite like this,” said Billy Wood, Yoshida owner.
"I wanted to share Japanese food, I know American people, Pocatello people love soy sauce taste and teriyaki taste and I wanted to share my Japanese teriyaki and soy sauce taste,” said Sanae.
Sanae says there is an abundance of other authentic Chinese and Mexican establishments in Pocatello, but there are hardly any other authentic Japanese places to go to in the area. Now that she has more time on her hands, she wanted to open one, and her and Billy feel like Station Square in Old Town Pocatello is a good location for it.
"My family all went to Pocatello High School and I really like this old town area,” said, Sanae.
Billy says the lunchtime cafe offers a variety of authentic Japanese specialties on the menu and for a reasonable price.
This Katsu Don is Oy Shi, which is Japanese for delicious.
"I come to this place because I am so passionate about Sanae's cooking,” said, customer, Lea Wood.
"It's very authentic Japanese food and delicious and great,” said, customer, Kellie Maughan.
"I just want to share my Japanese taste with Pocatello people and I hope they like it,” added Sanae.
Yoshida serves lunch from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm.
