Just as it was starting to feel like spring, winter reminded
us that this is still its season. For the Cable Factory in Rexburg, this winter
blast was a cruel reminder of what could have been. Things were so bad that aside
from special events, they really haven’t been open since the first of the year.
“In Rexburg we always say winter lasts about eight months of
the year, but his year we haven’t got more than maybe four solid weeks of snow,”
said Misty Kesler, of the Cable Factory. “
This was felt at the Cable Jam which brings competitors in
from throughout the west. The city helped by bringing in some snow but despite
their best efforts, Misty says it was kind of a slushy mess.
But despite the lack of cooperation from Mother Nature, she says
this could still ended up being a great year for them.
“Fortunately for us, our summer season was really successful,” said Kesler. “One great thing about
Rexburg is we’ve got a lot of college students and a lot of families that like
to get out there and do recreational things.”
The Cable Factory will be bringing in a bunch of sand to
help build up their beach areas. They also say that the water in the lake tends
to be a little warmer than other places because it is fed by a warm spring.
