A young boy lost his hand and another was injured after finding an explosive device near Rigby.

According to a news release from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, the boys found the device near a granary Wednesday evening. The device was an Omniblast which was used by police and military to breach doors.

Both boys were reported to have been injured by the blast.

One lost his left hand and was transported by helicopter to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center and was subsequently transported to Primary Medical Center.

The other boy was taken by ground ambulance to EIRMC where he was treated and released.

Jefferson County Sheriff Blair Olsen advises all residents to contact law enforcement if they find any object they think might be an explosive device.
