Bengals Fall to 'Cats in Ogden

POCATELLO, Idaho- The Idaho State men’s basketball team held Weber State to its second lowest scoring output of the season. But Weber State showed why they are the top defensive team in the Big Sky Conference, beating the Bengals 56-40 on Monday evening in front of a crowd of 8,758 fans at the Dee Events Center.
“Our effort was terrific tonight,” Idaho State coach Bill Evans said. “We played really hard and I liked the way we controlled the tempo of the game. We managed the clock well. We just need to be able to score the ball and we had a hard time doing that.
Melvin Morgan led Idaho State with 12 points and Andre Hatchett had nine points and six rebounds.
“Andre’s intensity and attitude is tremendous,” Evans said. “He plays for the right reasons and is doing a tremendous job for us.”
Tomas Sanchez tallied eight points and Idaho State shot 38.6 percent from the field for the game.
Weber State shot 48.9 percent and had three players in double figures led by Kyle Tresnak’s 15 points, 12 coming in the first half.
Idaho State never led in the game and trailed 7-6 less than five minutes in after a Sanchez jumper. Weber State then went on a 9-2 run to lead 17-8 with 11:54 remaining until halftime.
The Bengals trailed 31-14 with 4:04 to play in the period when they proceeded to hold Weber State scoreless for the final four minutes to cut the deficit to 31-21 at the break. The 7-0 run was capped by a Hatchett jumper with 1:43 to play in the half.
The closest the Bengals got the rest of the contest was seven points at 35-28 with 15:12 left in the game. Weber State countered the Bengals run with a 14-3 run to build its biggest lead of the game at 49-31 with 10:26 to play in the game. ISU got no closer than 11 points the rest of the way.
