Local HS Stars Highlight ISU Track Recruits

POCATELLO, Idaho – Idaho State track and field coach Dave Nielsen announced Monday that nine men have signed National Letters of Intent to join the ISU program for the 2012-13 season.


The signees include Jacob Campbell, Alan Cazeau, JT Cristobal, Blake Davidson, Jake Jardine, Tyler McLain, Marcellus Ramos, Kyle Searle and Steve Wacker.


Joining the Bengal sprinters are Cazeau, Cristobal, Jardine and McLain. Cazeau is from Kimberly, Idaho and attended Kimberly High School. He took the 3A state title in the long jump this year with a distance of 21-05.50 and was a member of the state champion 4x100 relay squad. He also finished third in the 100-meter dash.


McLain, a Bancroft, Idaho native attended North Gem High School and helped his high school team earn the boys 1A state title with second-place finishes in both the 100 and 200-meter dashes and a sixth-place finish in the 400-meter run.


Cristobal is from Mountain Home, Idaho and attended Mountain Home High School. He finished second in the 100-meter dash and fifth in the 200-meter dash at the 4A state meet. Jardine is a Pocatello, Idaho native and attended Pocatello High School. He placed fifth in the 100-meter dash and second in the 200-meter dash at the 4A state meet.


Ramos, an Adrian, Ore., native attended Nyssa High School and will compete in the sprint and jump events for Idaho State. Ramos took the 3A state title in the triple jump and placed second in both the 100-meter dash and long jump. He also placed fifth in the 200-meter dash.


Searle is from Ashton, Idaho and attended Rigby High School. He will compete in the sprint events as well as the pole vault at ISU. Searle is the reigning 4A state champ in the pole vault with a mark of 14-06.00. He also placed ninth in the 100-meter dash at the state meet.


Wacker joins ISU from Longmont, Colo., and graduated from Longmont High School. He will join the core of traditionally dominant Bengal pole-vaulters. Wacker took the 4A state title in the pole vault with a height of 15-000.00 and also took the top mark at the USATF Colorado Championship during the high school indoor season.


Joining ISU in the distance events are Campbell and Davidson. Davidson is from Boise, Idaho and attended Centennial High School. He was a member of the 4x800 relay team that took fourth and the 4x400 relay team that finished sixth at the 5A state meet.


Campbell is a Gresham, Ore., native and attended Sam Barlow High School. He competed in the 3,000-meter run at the 6A state meet.


The signees join an ISU men’s program that finished fifth at both the indoor and outdoor conference championships and that had eight all-conference individuals during the outdoor campaign.
