POCATELLO, Idaho- The Bill Evans era opened on Thursday evening at Reed Gym with a 71-41 exhibition win over Montana Tech. The Bengals took a 37-25 halftime lead and outscored Montana Tech 34-16 en route to the victory.
“We did some good things,” Evans said. “I think we did a good job of guarding the arc but I don’t think we did a good job of guarding the dribble. I thought we did a poor job of getting the ball in the post. We shot too many three’s. Defensively we were great but not solid. We tried and we were unselfish.”
Melvin Morgan led ISU offensively with 20 points of seven-of-nine shooting from the field. He was four-of-five from the 3-point line. Chris Hansen scored 17 points in his Bengal debut and Avibakuro Preh led Idaho State in rebounding with 11 in 18 minutes of play off the bench.
Idaho State shot 50 percent from the field and held Montana Tech to 26.9 shooting, 18.2 percent in the second half. Idaho State shot The Bengals out rebounded Montana Tech 44-26.
Leading 37-25 at halftime, Montana Tech was held scoreless for the first seven minutes of the second half as Idaho State went on a 15-0 run to take a 52-25 lead with 13:32 to play in the game. The Bengals led by as many as 33 points at 69-36 with 3:57 to play in the game.
Idaho State returns to action on Tuesday, November 6 at 7 p.m. against Whitworth in Reed Gym. The regular season starts Nov. 10 at Utah State.
