POCATELLO, Idaho – Senior forward Rachel Strawn scored her fourth and fifth goals of the 2012 season Saturday as she helped Idaho State defeat Minot State 4-0 at Davis Field.

Strawn scored her first goal of the contest at the 11:47 mark off an assist from sophomore forward Amanda Ellsworth. Strawn scored again in the second half, at the 63:04 mark, off an assist from senior midfielder Anna Pingree. Strawn finished the contest with four shots, four on goal and two goals in 54 minutes of play.

“I couldn’t be happier for Rachel,” ISU Head Coach Allison Gibson said. “You know, we had a long talk at the end of her junior year and I told her she had one more year and if she committed to it she had all the tools and she did. I had been on her for three years to do it and she finally did. She stayed here all summer and trained. She is getting those opportunities in games and just putting them away. It’s exciting. Seeing that hard work payoff is really rewarding for a coach.”

Pingree went on to assist another ISU goal just one minute later as junior defender Allyson Stainbrook scored her first goal of the year. Pingree finished with one shot, one on goal and two assists while Stainbrook posted one shot, one on goal and one goal in 67 minutes of action.

Ellsworth scored her second goal of the season in the first half at the 16:51 mark off an assist from senior defender Alishia Cairl. Ellsworth finished with six shots, three on goal, one goal and one assist for the contest.

Overall, Idaho State out shot Minot State 25-0 as the Beavers failed to record a single shot in the game. MSU goalkeeper Marie Torres allowed four goals and made eight saves in 76 minutes of play while sub-in goalie Ashley Barzcewski recorded two saves in 14 minutes of play.

The Bengals came close to tying the single-game record for number of corner kicks, recording 11 in today’s contest. The current record is 13.

The Bengals improve to 3-0-0 on the season while the Beavers remain at 0-0-0 as the contest was an exhibition match-up for MSU.

The Governor’s Cup is next up for ISU as the Bengals take on in-state rivals Boise State and Idaho in Boise, Idaho. The Bengals face Idaho Friday, Aug. 31 at 3:30 p.m. and Boise State Sunday, Sept. 2 at 2 p.m.
