Even though we've had a wet spring there is a growing concern for summer wildfires. One residential area in Bonneville County that has seen wildfires in recent summers will be the scene of a drill for emergency crews this weekend.
On Saturday, members of the Upper Snake River Interagency Wildfire Group will hold a fire drill in the foothills around the Blackhawk Estates and Comora Loma area. They'll work on improving response and communication between the different local, state and federal agencies.
Homeowners in the area have been notified of this drill and will also be offered a home evaluation to ensure they are prepared for the 2009 fire season.
Those participating are the BLM, Forest Service, Idaho Falls Fire, Shelly/Firth, Aberdeen Fire, Central Fire, Ucon, INL, Bonneville County, Madison Fire, Teton Communications, Bonneville County Road and Bridge, Homeland Security, National Weather Service, High Country RC and D, Bonneville County Emergency Management and Blackfoot Fire.
An Incident Command will be set up at Woodland Hills Elementary. This drill will take place from 10 a.m. to around 2 p.m. June 27th. During this time, emergency personnel and equipment will be in and around the area. Those with questions can call 524-7602.
