The Job of a Crop Duster in Eastern Idaho

Updated:

By Ty Brennan

Monday we reported on the accident of a crop duster near Rockland. Today we take a closer look at the job of a crop duster pilot and the dangers associated with the job.

For pilots at Western Aviation in Blackfoot, they fly all day long spraying crops from Idaho Falls to American Falls.

All of the pilots have not only been licensed to fly by the FAA, they have also attended special training on crop dusting.

Crop dusters say they are constantly making adjustments, depending on weather, outside temperature and terrain.

The pilots say they know there are dangers associated with their jobs, but say they wouldn't want to do anything else.

Willis Coco, Western Aviation Manager: "This is my 42nd year in this business and I always tell people the most dangerous thing about our job is driving to the airport in the morning."
