Six Fires Started Thursday Afternoon in Eastern Idaho

East Idaho Interagency Fire Center reports that lightning from Thursday's afternoon thunderstorms caused several fires in southeast Idaho.   Due to recent hot temperatures this region is now more susceptible to wildland fires.

Here is a list of fires currently burning:

West Elkhorn:  Located 9 miles northwest of Malad, the West Elkhorn fire is reported to be over 100 acres. Three heavy engines, one light and one dozer are working the blaze. Structures are threatened at this time.

Hells Half Acre: This fire is located approximately one mile north of Blackfoot, Idaho just east of I-15. The fire was controlled and contained at 3:00 p.m.

Cove Springs:  Currently reported over 30 acre, this fire is located 14 miles east of Blackfoot on the Fort Hall reservation southwest of Wolverine Canyon. 2 Heavy EIIFC engines and 3 Fort Hall Engines (2 light and 1 heavy) are responding to the fire.

Bridge Creek:  Another lightning caused fire, 2 miles southeast of Grays Lake is burning. The fire is reported to be under 1/10 of an acre. One light engine is on scene.

Viola:  This lightning caused fire is located 2 miles northeast of Nicholia, Idaho near the Idaho-Montana border and is being managed for resource benefit. No major activity is occurring. One engine is on scene.

Dry Creek: The Dry Creek fire is located 7 miles northwest of Island Park. The fire is currently reported as.1 acre. One heavy and one light engine are on scene.
