There is a certain portion of the population that will actually be hauled off to jail if they answer their doors for trick or treaters on Saturday night.
It's a program called Operation Lights Out. It was created to help put parents' minds at ease.
The program is specifically designed to keep sex offenders indoors while there are a high number of distracted children outdoors.
Bannock County Probation and Parole are currently supervising 80 sex offenders that have been sentenced on felony charges.
Online there is local tracking tool that helps parents identify where sex offenders live in their neighborhood. Sex offenders never get off that list but do not have to participate in Operation Lights Out when they're done with their parole time.
No worries though because parole officers are out in full force during the holiday to be on the lookout for all sex offenders.
John Warner, Senior Probation and Parole Officer: "It's not that we need to be paranoid that we can't let our kids enjoy the festivities. We need to be aware and be out there but the community needs to know that we're going to do everything in our power to keep our children safe."
Warner says now might be a good time to check out Idaho State Police's website at www.isp.state.id.us/sor_id/.
It maps out where sex offenders live and what their charges were. It also provides you with their picture.
