Voters poised to head to the polls

Associated Press - November 3, 2009 7:34 AM ET

BOISE, Idaho (AP) - It's election day in cities and towns all across Idaho.

Races to be decided by voters today are local contests. There are no statewide issues or races to be decided Tuesday.

In Boise, voters must fill three seats on the city council. For some candidates, the election has become a referendum on the city's plans to invest $60 million to build a streetcar system through a downtown corridor.

In Kootenai County in the north and Canyon County in the southwest, voters will cast ballots for or against proposals to spend millions of dollars on new county jails.

Voters in Idaho Falls, Twin Falls, Lewiston, Moscow, Pocatello, Chubbuck and many other cities and towns have city council races to decide. And in other towns and counties, voters will also be asked to decide requests for school funding.
