HONOLULU (AP) -- The military is investigating the circumstances of a helicopter crash in Iraq that claimed the lives of two Hawaii-based soldiers.
The Department of Defense announced Tuesday that Chief Warrant Officer Mathew C. Heffelfinger of Kimberly, Idaho, and Chief Warrant Officer Earl R. Scott III of Jacksonville, Fla., died Sunday in Tikrit.
The 29-year-old Heffelfinger and 24-year-old Scott died of the injuries they received when their OH-58D helicopter crashed.
They were assigned to the 2nd Squadron, 6th Cavalry Regiment, 25th Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division at Schofield Barracks.
