Bank Robber Admits to Bomb Hoax

Posted:

New information on the man who robbed an area bank more than a month ago.

According to law enforcement, Jason Hagan, who robbed the Zions Bank in September, admits he was involved in another crime.

If you remember that morning of September 29th - we first broke the news of a possible bomb in front of the Iona post office.  Then a few hours later we learned the Zions bank had been robbed.

According to the Bonneville County Sheriff's Office, Jason Hagan admitted to investigators that he is responsible for leaving the box labeled 'bomb' earlier that morning.

It took the Bonneville County Sheriff's Office and the Idaho Falls Bomb Squad hours to determine the box wasn't dangerous. Hagan used the box as a distraction, hoping police would be tied up miles away while he went into the Zions Bank behind Kohl's and took an unspecified amount of money.

It wasn't until weeks later that a phone tip lead them to Hagan; he was arrested.

Dane Watkins Jr. - the Bonneville County Prosecutor - says they aren't going to seek additional charges, focusing their case on the bank robbery. But Watkins also says the federal government might seek charges independent of the robbery in light of this new information.
