The City of Ammon wrote a proposal to extend their area of impact and many people in Bonneville County have been in uproar since.
Wednesday night, Bonneville County Planning and Zoning members held a hearing to decide whether to grant the city's request.
Officials from both Ammon and Idaho Falls showed up to the hearing and so did many residents who live in the proposed area.
Inside the Bonneville County Court House was a courtroom packed with people from wall to wall, most of them displeased about Ammon proposing to add a four mile radius south of both Ammon and Idaho Falls to Ammon’s area of impact.
Members of Bonneville Planning and Zoning listened to residents one after one as they stood at a microphone pleading why they don't want to be any part of Ammon.
“I don’t want to be impacted by anything else in the area,” says Jan Oltmans, who lives in the proposed area of impact. “We have enough problems with Bonneville County without getting into the city part of Ammon.”
The dispute has been raising tension and concern for the people who live in the proposed area.
“I really only care at the end of all this that those folks get their say,” says Sharon Parry, an Idaho Falls council member. “That they are willingly led into either the area of impact of Idaho Falls or the area of impact of Ammon. That’s it.”
Wednesday night, many people got their say and stood in front of the planning and zoning board presenting to them that the majority of the courtroom feels the city of Ammon is not in their best interest.
As of Wednesday night the board has yet to come to a decision. But there should be word on their verdict as early as Thursday.
