Idaho city considers yard storage rules

Associated Press - November 19, 2009 11:34 AM ET

LEWISTON, Idaho (AP) - Lewiston city leaders are considering a rule that would bar residents from storing piles of farm implements, bicycles, construction materials, appliances or other unsightly debris in their yards.

City Code Enforcement Officer Steve Campbell says he's gotten complaints from people that say neighbors are stacking piles of junk against shared fences, making the fence bow. But Campbell says there's no current way to address the problem in city rules.

The Lewiston Tribune reports the proposed ordinance would allow things to be stored in back yards, as long as they're screened from view with a fence.
