The Pocatello man accused of rear-ending a motorcycle and killing two people was back in court Tuesday.
Last September, a couple from California was passing through town when they were driving on Pocatello Creek Road and were rear-ended by Jason Meyer, 22. A few days after the crash, Meyer pleaded not guilty, but Tuesday, he had a change of heart.
Meyer appeared before Judge Ronald Bush and pleaded guilty to two counts of felony vehicular manslaughter. In exchange for his guilty pleas, the state dropped one count of leaving the scene of an injury accident.
After entering his pleas, Meyer told Judge Bush he was driving to work in September when he swerved out of his lane and and hit the motorcycle.
Dennis Nakauchi, who was a Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputy, died a day after the accident, while his wife Beatriz was pronounced dead at the scene.
Deputy Prosecutor Vic Pearson says the next step is for a pre-sentence investigation report to be prepared before Meyer is sentenced.
Vic Pearson: "We'll review that, talk to the family, and review different facts and circumstances and then we'll make a decision regarding sentencing and what we feel will be an appropriate sentence in this matter."
Meyer is scheduled to be back in court on March 17h. He faces up to two consecutive terms of ten years in prison.
