A highly preventable crime reached an astounding number in Pocatello over the weekend.

Pocatello Police say between Friday night and Sunday, they had over 30 vehicle burglaries and four or five home burglaries.  In all but two of the car burglary cases the cars were left unlocked. In the two cases where a window was broken, the stolen valuables were left in plain sight.

Police call these crimes of opportunity that are pretty simple to stop.

"I don't think people understand that we have a lot of prowlers. Every community has a lot of prowlers and they just walk up and down all the streets and they try every car door and they try every house door and if they can get in they get in and take what they can find," said Dianne Brush with the Pocatello Police Department.

Brush added that Pocatello is a safe community but people shouldn't be inviting crime into our neighborhoods by leaving doors unlocked or valuables out in the open.

Thank God for castle doctrine. Anyone unlawfully enters my house, you can bet they'll leave in a body bag. Something needs to be done about these pill heads, I can almost guarantee its some junky that needs money for his or her OC fix.

@BKtkr a) More power to those cops b) Usually State cops on the interstate are responsible for those stops, and here, thankfully, ISP hasn't been called in to supplement PPD and patrol the streets of Poky c) McCammon has had a recent string of burglaries during both day and night that many believe another resident is responible for. Now they may have felt the heat or have simply run out of territory and are moving on to a much denser pop. Either way, to solve these Poky crimes, they may need to look at McCammon...
