Whether it’s a small bladder or a good burger, many of us had our reasons for stopping at the convenience store in Arimo. This traveler’s oasis has been making the drive on Interstate 15 a little more tolerable for several years but those days are numbered.
After 15 years in Arimo, the city’s only gas station is closing their doors and for the citizens it’s so much more.
“When I found out we were all just really kind of bummed about it because this is our place to go and hang out,” said Tristan Worley. “Whenever somebody wants to get away from the school and get away from for their lunches, let’s go to the store or let’s go get a drink.”
The high school senior is not alone. Even the workers say they are going to miss it.
“The people, I love the people,” said Sherry Howell, a five year employee of the store. “I love these high school kids and it’s just going to be sad not being able to work with them and see them every day at lunch hour.”
In some ways, the opening of the gas station put Arimo back on the map and some fear that by losing it, it will have a negative effect on the town.
“I think Arimo is going to be more forgotten now because we don’t have a place to go in Arimo besides the high school, and nobody wants to go back to school” said Worley. “When we had the store here, even if we were driving through, we would stop at the store and grab lunch because we knew it was good and it reminded you that it was in Arimo and hey Arimo actually exists.”
The final day for the convenience store and gas station is Saturday November, 24. They’ll close the doors for the final time at 8:00 PM.
An exact reason for the closing of the store has not been released.
