A disturbing trend in the Magic Valley is capturing national attention. Apparently someone is targeting man’s best friend and leaving canine lovers confused and heartbroken. There have been numerous reports of people luring dogs into vans and what happens next is anyone’s guess.

When dogs go missing they often end up at the animal shelter but a disturbing number of them have simply disappeared in southern Idaho.

“We are talking cruelty and or theft and then cruelty,” said Debbie Blackwood, Director of the Twin Falls Animal Shelter. “Put it all together, there’s a lot of missing dogs.”

Debbie has ruled out the possibility of wild animals or even cars killing these dogs. Partly because of witnesses who say they have evidence pointing otherwise.

“They saw them loading them in their vehicle,” said Blackwood. “They let their little dog out, next thing she knows a red van pulls up and she has to race out and retrieve it....Another person said a black Eldorado type car, they caught the person calling their dog over to them and many, many issues all southern Idahowide. “

As for a motive, Debbie suspects illegal activity.

“There have been some found with mouth duct-taped shut and then their teeth had been filed off before that so they couldn’t fight back and were used to train dogs as bait dogs,” continued Blackwood.

As if that wasn’t troubling enough, animal control officers stumbled upon another disturbing scene in a popular recreation area called the Devil’s Corral.

“They found, and according to the call too, a German Shepard dog that had been, we don’t have a forensic pathologist on this case, but it appears as though the dog was stoned or had his head crushed. His head was definitely crushed by stones and there was a ceremonial purple blanket placed over its body,” said Blackwood.

In all, there have been nearly 40 dogs that have disappeared under suspicious circumstances since November.

Why don't they put GPS on three or four dogs and see where they go? It's not like they won't be able to trace them and get them back.
