You are cordially invited to join us in welcoming in the Christmas season with the Downey Madrigal Choir’s Christmas program! The Madrigal Choir and Men’s voices will present their annual Christmas program on Sunday, December 2nd at 7:30 P.M, at the Downey LDS church. “Tis the Season” is the theme for this year’s program and will spotlight numbers such as: “The First Noel”, “Were you There?”, and “Can Santa Make it Through Tonight?”
Every year the Downey Madrigal Choir, a non-profit organization, give of their time and talents to present a musical program to help ring in the Christmas season!
The Madrigal Choir was first organized on July 7, 1943, during WWII. A group of women organized a women’s choir as a way to help pass the lonely hours while many of the local women’s husbands were away in the service. This small group soon learned that their little choir also brought joy to those in the surrounding communities.
On October, 1944, the Madrigal Choir presented their first concert and from that time, a yearly Christmas program has become an anticipated Christmas tradition to the area. By 1946, men joined the group as well, bringing another dimension to the choir. Eventually, the choir expanded to included members around the surrounding areas, such as Virginia and Swan Lake.
Through the years, the Madrigal Choir has sung at many functions throughout Southern Idaho and Northern Utah. However, they are best remembered as the choir that rings in the Christmas Season with music.
President, Melanie Archibald, expressed her hope that individuals and families will take advantage of this free concert that is open to all ages! Please join us in welcoming this joyous Christmas Season!
