A Pocatello-Chubbuck School District employee has been arrested for sexual abuse of a minor.
According to Pocatello Police, they were contacted by Highland High School for a report of an employee having inappropriate contact with a student.
Police have arrested and charged 47-year-old Eric Popely, of Pocatello, with sexual abuse of a minor under the age of 16.
PPD does not believe there are any other people involved in the incident.
Popely is currently being booked into the Bannock County Jail and is awaiting arraignment.
Police did not release any additional information.
The Pocatello-Chubbuck School District said Popely is "no longer employed with the district" and that the matter has been turned over to Pocatello Police.
“As a public school district, we accept the responsibility to protect the safety and well-being of our learners and staff in a positive learning environment,” said Superintendent Dr. Douglas Howell. “This is an obligation that we take very seriously, and one that prompts us to take swift, consistent action when necessary.”
On Highland High School's website, Popely is listed as a faculty member in Secondary Education.
